Michigan Railroads Association
The Michigan Railroads Association is providing a list of Railroad Emergency Contact Numbers to all POAM members for their safety. To improve highway-rail crossing safety, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) now requires each railroad to have an Emergency Notification System (ENS), which allows emergency response center staff to identify crossing locations and railroad contacts for reporting safety problems and emergency situations.
What to Do in Case of an Emergency
- Look for a blue-and-white emergency notification sign,
- The ENS sign should be posted near the crossing and clearly visible it includes the name of the railroad, the railroad’s emergency contact number, and the USDOT National Crossing Inventory Number.
- Using the information on the ENS sign is the quickest way to notify the railroad.

Who do I contact if a tree has fallen on the railroad tracks and I know a train comes every morning at 6:30 a.m.? The track is between E. Wetters Rd. and R. Parish Rd. In Kawkawlin MI 48631. There is a tree across the entire tracks closer to Parish Rd. and then down a little ways ( probably about half way in-between both streets ) there was I believe another that was only partially on the tracks.

Who do we contact when railroads are obstructing traffic for longer than michigan law allows? Obviously there’s no point contacting the railroad, but calling 911 is unnecessary. Non emergency police for the city?

Been sitting at the crossing at Pine Lake Rd in Battle Creek for almost 30 minutes now. 1 train hadn’t even made it past the crossing before a second one came on the other track going to same direction and it has now stopped. Please fix these extended waits. I understand 5-10 minutes but 30 is ridiculous to ask of anyone.
