OPEB & Pension Reform Update

Via: Kenneth E. Grabowski, Legislative Director

We are expecting bills to be introduced tomorrow (Thursday) regarding the Other Post Employment Benefit (OPEB) and pension reform debate. However: NO VOTE WILL BE TAKEN THIS WEEK. Ongoing communication has been occurring with the Police and Fire organizations and legislative leadership and the Governor.

As part of our legislative engagement, we have been provided bill drafts, which our legal counsel is reviewing and providing comment. As we continue to engage in thoughtful conversation, we are continuing to fight for our core principles:

  • Maintaining our ability to collectively bargain
  • Protecting the benefits that have been promised

Action may occur next week. We will continue providing regular updates as we move forward.

Be sure to follow POAM on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

I know live in Fl but I’m hounding my former colleagues to get into the fight. I will fly up to Michigan to march if it becomes necessary!
I worked too hard and sacrificed too much to let a bunch of politicians steal what I have legally and fairly earned. Not to mentioned, I based the rest of my life on these earned benefits so any screwing with them will be devastating.

I am asking all those police officers, deputies, corrections officers and dispatchers who are now retired and out of state to contact any family and friends you have in the state of Michigan and ask them to contact their elected officials on this issue. The Republicans especially need to feel the pressure on this one. It is to big not to. Harry Valentine

I was in Lansing today along with other police and fire officers from across the state. We need to keep vigilant and keep calling and emailing your representatives in Lansing. Remind them 2018 is around the corner and they will be primaried.

Thank you for the updates, I wish I could help protest at the capital, however I currently reside in AZ. Please keep up the great fight. Thank you for what you do.
