Dear Michigan State Senators and State Representatives,
The Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) absolutely opposes the legislation as written. The bills are being rushed through without proper review. Contrary to the spin being given by supporters, these bills do not help police and fire.
The legislation as written would allow any employer, no matter how well funded, to change and eliminate retirees healthcare. This is not helpful.
POAM believes OPEB reforms are needed, but in a rush for passage, these bills are severely flawed. Let’s take some time and do it correctly.
POAM urges you to vote NO, on this flawed legislation.
Sincerely,
POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION OF MICHIGAN
Kenneth E. Grabowski
Legislative Director

Each & every POAM member (active AND retired), please personally contact, and ask ALL of your family & friends to contact, every state Rep. and Senator to oppose this legislation! It takes some legwork, but this is a life-altering issue for all of us! Solidarity alone defeats this matter! Moving forward, we collectively need to reassess who we endorse & vote for. Not ONE Democrat in the state legislature has voiced support of this & we ALL need to thank Rep. Jason Wentworth for being the ONLY Republican currently opposed to this, and whom supports us! Thank you, Mr. Wentworth!
Keep the fight strong, POAM!

I agree with the POAM! I worked for what I have and now that I’m retired they want to just cancel what we agreed to?!?

This needs to be sent to the State GOP Leadership. Most Police and Fire are conservative by nature. However if you pass this it will be the last time we vote for a State GOP Canadate for any office.

Posted by To mitigate the middle class. Shame on these people. Not sure why so many cops and firemen are Republicans but this might wake them up!
Another Republican attempt To mitigate the middle class. Shame on these people. Not sure why so many cops and firemen are Republicans but this might wake them up!

I know I only gave 22 years as a cop (plus three in the U. S. Army), but I worked pretty hard and at great risk. I’ve not stopped working since I retired 15 years ago. Please don’t pass this. It will hurt me and countless others in my position.
Respectfully, Kim Sivyer retired RTPD.

So this is what its comes to. We proud professionals having to beg and plead with these politicians just to keep the scraps of benefits we earned with our blood, sweat and sometimes lives. These same politicians who have never strapped on a gun and badge or left their home not knowing whether they’ll be shot, stabbed, assaulted or run over. I am sure that if one of these politicians were trapped in a room with a 250 lb parole absconder vowing not to go back to prison they would have a new outlook on what we deserve.

With all due respect, way to gentle in your approach Ken. This is the same group who stated they would not tax our pensions LIE….same group who stated that they would never go after retiree health care LIE….same group that allowed Detroit first responders to LOSE HEALTH CARE, and have pensions reduced and yet whines about Federal mandates and their withholding of shared revenue, yet they want to dictate to a local municipality what they can and cannot offer as benefit packages, and refuse to release the money they REALLOCATED from the teachers? Governor Snyder has the temerity to classify us as “historic liabilities”?, and is meeting with the “no votes” trying to insert a back door deal?? Famous song by The Who says it all:
