House 4725 & PA 312 for Corrections Legislation

Senator Ken Horn, Chair of the Economic and Small Business Development Committee held a hearing for public testimony on House 4725 on Thursday, January 27th. This legislation restores PA 312 protection to county corrections officers.

Testimony was provided in support of the legislation by POAM Legislative Director Kenneth E. Grabowski and Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy. Corrections officers are subjected to the same hazard and duties as those currently covered by PA 312, and with COVID-19, have been subjected to even greater hazards.

The committee, chaired by Senator Ken Horn, was receptive to the arguments put forth and a vote on the legislation is expected in the near future.

It is important for you to contact your State Senator, and ask for their support of HB 4725, to restore binding arbitration rights for Correction Officers.

POAM would like to thank Representative Bob Bezotte and Representative Kelly Breen for sponsoring this legislation.
