The Police Officers Association of Michigan is proud to support Michigan’s Honor Guard and encourages anyone interested in serving, to take the training course this spring.

Honor Guard training is being run by the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association and the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. Training will be held from May 20 through May 24, at the Alpena Aplex Center.

You can sign up for Honor Guard training online and there are two different packages, a $495 option and a $430 one. The latter does not include lodging. Both packages include meals, a hat, sweatshirt, several T-shirts (daily uniform) as well as an instruction manual and student ID. Some of the things you’ll learn include Basic Drills, Manual of Arms, Color Guard, Flag Law (flag etiquette) History, Casket Watch, Funeral Planning & Preparation among other Honor Guard-related items. Upon graduation from the training, you will get to participate in a graduation ceremony and attend a luncheon as well as receiving a class photo, graduation certificate and challenge coin.
