POAM Helps Veterans Transition Smoothly to Corrections Careers
Deputy Dave La Montaine, POAM’s rep on the Michigan Sheriff’s Coordinating & Training Council, was successful in introducing a proposal to allow qualified veterans abbreviated training to work in corrections at Sheriff’s Departments statewide.
Previously there was no provision to allow for qualified veterans to seamlessly transfer from a career in Military corrections to Sheriff’s Departments state wide.
Deputy La Montaine, a former US Marine, advocated for this proposal in recognition of the sacrifice all veterans have made for our freedoms. He has indicated that there is a country wide effort to hire veterans, and the MSCTC will now be a part of that honorable effort.

I appreciate POAM offering VA resources for members.
I recently tried to get help through the website and found it confusing to figure out where to go or how to request assistance.
It would really help to have a clearly labeled section or form for VA claims so members can easily find the right support.
