A Decade + Serving Law Enforcement: POAM’s Annual Police Week Home Base
POAM’s favorite Tune Inn Restaurant & Bar has clinched a prestigious RAMMY Award in 2025, taking home the title of Best Bar of the Year. This marks a remarkable moment in the bar’s history, placing the Tune Inn in the spotlight as D.C.’s hospitality scene honors its enduring character, welcoming vibe during Police Week each year.
For more than ten consecutive years, the Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) has made the Tune Inn its unofficial home base during National Police Week each May in Washington D.C. As thousands of law enforcement officers from across the country converge on the capital to honor fallen colleagues, POAM hosts its annual appreciation gathering at the Tune Inn, a casual, open‑door affair offering beer and burgers for any badge‑wearing guest.
The tradition began after POAM executives noticed officers in uniform waiting in public restrooms or lunch lines during rites such as the Candlelight Vigil. They sought a place where service members and their families could relax, refuel, and share camaraderie with uniforms absolutely welcome. The Tune Inn’s proximity to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Capitol events made it a natural fit for this annual welcome event.
A Message from POAM President Jim Tignanelli
POAM President Jim Tignanelli recently reflected on the Tune Inn’s importance in the organization’s Police Week traditions:
“My relationship with the Tune Inn goes back more than a decade, a place where we honor law enforcement each May, giving anyone with a badge a cold beverage and a hamburger. It’s more than a bar: it’s a gathering spot built on respect, hospitality, and gratitude. Every year, we return because they stand with us, and we want to give back by making sure every officer feels welcome.”
Tignanelli also highlighted the broader meaning of the event in his May 2025 Spring Update: the Tune Inn reception is a highlight amid solemn memorial ceremonies, providing levity, fellowship, and appreciation to those who’ve answered the call to serve.
Continuing a Tradition of Honor
Looking forward, both POAM and the Tune Inn are committed to growing this partnership. Jim Tignanelli emphasizes that each year no matter the crowds at the memorials, the Tune Inn stands ready with open doors, cold beverages, and a beefy burger for law enforcement. In turn, POAM continues to view the tavern as an invaluable anchor during Police Week, blending hospitality with heartfelt gratitude.
This RAMMY win cements Tune Inn’s reputation not only among D.C.’s dining elite, but also as a beacon of support for law enforcement officers. It’s a win that celebrates legacy, community, and the quiet power of a local bar that has long stood on its own terms.
