POAM has recently opened up nominations for this year’s Annual Police Officer of the Year Award, as well as the Horse’s Ass Award:

To All Local Association Presidents and Members:

February 1, 2012 begins the opportunity for POAM members to nominate fellow police officers, who in the year 2011 exhibited behavior that qualifies them for our Annual Police Officer Of The Year Award.

This is also the opportunity to nominate an individual for POAM’s “Horse’s Ass Award.” This distinction is given out annually to Michigan’s worst police executive, who routinely violates member’s rights and is responsible for poor department morale.

Nominations from the membership should be funneled through their local leaders and then to their assigned Business Agent at POAM. All nominations must be received at the POAM office no later than March 30, 2012.

Your selection for this year’s horse’s ass award clearly lends legitimacy to your organization. You absolutely got it right. Congratulations and keep up the good work.
