Key Tax Dates

It’s crucial to file your taxes promptly to avoid penalties. Compliance with these deadlines is essential to avoid negative consequences and ensure compliance with tax regulations. 

For calendar year filers, returns and payments are due on the following dates of the current year:

  • April 15th
    • Tax Day tax filing deadline: The deadline to file or e-file your individual federal income tax return.
    • Deadline for most state tax returns, though there are some exceptions for certain states.
    • Deadline to request a tax extension by filing Form 4868 and to pay any taxes due from tax year 2025 (even if you are requesting an extension).
    • Deadline to make HSA and IRA contributions for the tax year 2025.
    • Estimated tax payments are due for the first quarter of 2026.
  • June 15th: Second quarter estimated tax payments due for 2026.
  • September 15th: Third quarter estimated tax payments due for 2026.
  • October 15th: Extended deadline to file your 2025 income tax return if you requested a tax extension.
  • December 31: Due date to take the 2026 required minimum distribution from your retirement plan for those 73 and older.
  • January 15, 2027: Fourth quarter estimated tax payments due for 2026.
