What To Do If You Suspect You May Have COVID-19?

Due to the ever-changing nature of COVID-19, POAM, COAM, and TPOAM’s General Counsel Frank Guido outlined three recommendations for our members who are being sent home as a precaution or for cold-like symptoms.

Recommendations

In an event this happens to you, we want to prepare you for what to do. POAM recommends taking one of the three actions below:

1) Employees that are unable to appear for work due to flu-like symptoms that meet the criteria for the coronavirus should seek immediate medical attention from a health care provider in accordance with the most current medical recommendation by the CDC.

2) Employees ordered to leave work by their employer due to any medical symptoms should follow the medical assessment protocol set forth in #1 above.

3) Employees following the protocol set forth in #1 and #2 should file on-duty (on the job) injury reports (to preserve claims that sustained time off should be covered by (A) worker’s compensation, or (B) result in restoration of a paid sick leave (PTO) bank).
