The POAM Scholarship
To make a positive impact on the lives of young individuals, POAM established a unique scholarship program. Since the early 2000s, this scholarship has become an opportunity to support students who may not have straight As but exhibit compassion, dedication, and integrity as they seek higher education opportunities.

Unlike many traditional scholarships that focus solely on academic excellence or sportsmanship, the POAM scholarship seeks to assist those students who might not be at the top of the class but have demonstrated admirable qualities throughout their lives. By offering financial assistance of $250 per student, the scholarship helps alleviate some financial burdens for those aspiring to attend a local college while balancing the demands of part-time employment. Each applicant is evaluated on three core aspects including their past accomplishments, present activities, and future goals. The emphasis is on personal character, involvement in extracurricular activities such as sports, volunteering, or Scout programs, and a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the world.
While the award amount is modest, it holds great value for the students of the POAM scholarship. For many young individuals striving to pursue higher education, this amount can make a tangible difference in their lives. The impact of the POAM scholarship program is best illustrated through one of its recipients, Kami Box. Kami is a 2023 John Glen High School graduate in Bay City who is driven, positive, and outgoing. Upon graduation, she will attend West Virginia University to study forensic science. Outside of school, she spends her free time relaxing and enjoying activities like hanging out with friends and family, reading, and shopping.
