33rd Annual Candlelight Vigil held virtually on Thursday, May 13 to honor fallen officers

Washington, DC, (May 4, 2021) — In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Since then, this week has been allocated to honor the service and sacrifice of those law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, and those who continue to serve and protect our communities.

From May 9–15, the National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum will deliver programs designed to keep current officers safe and healthy, as well as ceremonies to honor those fallen officers whose names have been recently added to the Memorial with the 33rd Annual Candlelight Vigil to be held virtually on May 13 at 8 p.m. EDT.

Events throughout the week include daily virtual workouts, Destination Zero 2021 Award announcements highlighting achievements in officer safety and wellness, the unveiling of the “Built for Blue” LEGO Brick art installation, SAFLEO Suicide Prevention Program, Hall of Remembrance Museum Installation, cardiac wellness screening, Police Unity Tour Ceremony, and the 33rd Annual Candlelight Vigil to be held virtually.
