The Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) is proud to announce its endorsement of Congressman John James in his campaign for Governor of Michigan.

John James and James Tiganelli

POAM has previously endorsed Congressman James and has worked closely with him on issues important to Michigan law enforcement officers, retirees, first responders, and military veterans. Throughout his time serving Michigan, James has consistently demonstrated strong support for public safety professionals and the communities they protect.

“As a combat veteran and proven leader, John James understands service, sacrifice, and the challenges facing today’s law enforcement officers,” said POAM President Jim Tignanelli. “He has been a strong advocate for the needs of police officers and first responders, and he understands the importance of ensuring officers have the support, resources, protections, and respect they deserve.”

James, a veteran of the United States Army and former Apache helicopter pilot, has frequently advocated for policies focused on public safety, law enforcement support, veteran services, and strengthening communities across Michigan.

Longstanding Support for Michigan Law Enforcement

POAM leadership noted that James has remained accessible and engaged with law enforcement organizations throughout his public service career and has consistently supported legislation and initiatives that benefit Michigan police officers and public safety professionals.

“The men and women of law enforcement need leaders who understand the realities officers face every day,” Tignanelli added. “Congressman James has shown a willingness to listen, engage, and stand alongside law enforcement while supporting policies that help keep Michigan communities safe.”

POAM represents more than 12,000 law enforcement professionals across the State of Michigan and remains committed to advocating for policies, legislation, and leaders who support public safety, officer wellness, retirement security, and the families of Michigan’s first responders.
