Honoring 2019’s Police Officers of the Year
In past years, POAM has gathered the week before Memorial Day to hold our Annual Convention. We hold a full day of training (that takes place on Wednesday), then fill out the rest of the night with our annual Poker Run, Cigar Smoke and dinner, and our newly added Craft Beer Run.
On Thursday, we would be greeted by the Honor Guard and the Metro Detroit Police Fire Pipe and Drums. Then, we’d discuss all events that have happened over the year and receive legislative updates from our state and DC lobbyists. There would be guest speakers who hold deep admiration for law enforcement.
We would also honor those in law enforcement with distinguished honors. Thursday night would represent our annual Cocktail Party with more information and laughs with friends. Friday morning always includes disembarking back home or golfing together to celebrate Memorial weekend with family and friends. This has been our tradition going back to the early 1980s that started with a few dozen attendees to the over 500 in attendance last year.
COVID-19 changed all of this for our members and staff.
We, at POAM, present to you our Annual Convention supplemental video with two guest speakers and the announcement of 2019 Police Officers of the Year award recipients. It is our promise to visit each individual this year to provide a proper presentation of their distinguished awards in person.
