Deputy Williamson was honored for his decisive actions and courage during a dangerous and rapidly evolving incident on May 28, 2025, in Calhoun County, Michigan.

That day, deputies were dispatched to a rural property following reports of a subject who was both suicidal and homicidal. The individual had made statements indicating intent to harm law enforcement, and there were concerns that someone may have already been shot.

Deputy Williamson and Deputy Suleiman Sumbal responded to the scene and began searching the property for potential victims. The environment presented additional challenges, with limited visibility and uncertainty surrounding the suspect’s location.

As the deputies moved to the rear of the property, they located the suspect, who was armed with a long gun.
Deputy Williamson issued clear commands for the suspect to drop the weapon and turn away. Despite being given those commands while both deputies had him at gunpoint, the suspect refused to comply. Instead, he raised the weapon and pointed it directly at the deputies.

Faced with an immediate and deadly threat, Deputy Williamson discharged his firearm, stopping the suspect before the threat could be carried out.

In the moments that followed, Deputy Sumbal secured the scene, rendered aid to the suspect, and ensured the safety of those present as the situation transitioned from active threat to controlled response.

Congratulations Deputy Jack Williamson

Deputy Williamson’s actions serve as a powerful example of the responsibility that comes with wearing the badge. In a moment defined by uncertainty and danger, he relied on his training, his instincts, and his commitment to others to bring the situation under control. His response ensured that his fellow deputy and the community he serves remained safe.
