Public Safety Dispatcher in West Bloomfield

The Charter Township of West Bloomfield is accepting applications for a Public Safety Dispatcher position with their police department.

Public Safety Dispatcher Job Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of radio, telephone, and computer operational duties in the 24-hour facility.
  • Inputs, updates, and retrieves confidential information quickly from various computer systems.
  • Takes calls for assistance and dispatches police, fire, and medical for West Bloomfield Police and Fire, Orchard Lake Police, Keego Harbor Police, and Sylvan Lake Police.
  • Monitors multiple radio networks to receive, relay, and transmit messages to and from police, fire units, and other agencies.
  • Answers and handles after-hour calls for the Water Department.
  • Receives and directs calls to the appropriate department and/or individual.
  • Performs other clerical duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation or equivalent required. Prefer some college.
  • Previous dispatch experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with a multi-line phone system is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the use of computers or computer-based equipment is preferred.
  • After one year, must possess State certifications including CPR and EMD, certified in operating
  • LEIN and NCIC systems, 40-hour Basic Dispatching course.
  • Maintain 24 hours of bi-yearly training in dispatch topics.
  • Willingness and ability to work different shifts, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime, including mandatory, short-notice shifts.

SALARY

This is a full-time position and offers a complete benefits package.

  • Starting (non-lateral): $56,678.58
  • 2 years: $59,397.14
  • 3 years: $62,931.26
  • 4 years: $65,800.97
  • 5 years: $69,347.06

This position will also train on all 3 shifts and be assigned a shift once training is complete.

  • Day: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Afternoon: 3 p.m. – 11 p.m.
  • Midnight 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.
