The City of Wayne is looking for qualified candidates to fill the position of a Police Officer Recruit. Recruits will attend the Police Academy full-time before transitioning to the Police Officer position.
Police Officer Recruit Position Opening
The Wayne Police Department is in southeast Michigan, just north of Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The City of Wayne is a six-square-mile community bordered by Westland, Canton, and Romulus.
The department operates seven days a week with 12-hour shifts, which provides officers with a three-day weekend every other weekend. The Wayne Police Department offers multiple special units, including the Detective Bureau, K9, Accident Investigation, Quick Response Team, School Resource Officer, and Drone Team. Additionally, the department offers a relaxed tattoo and facial hair policy, permits external vest carriers, and has an on-site gym and gun range.
Hourly pay for this position is $20.10 per hour.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizen.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- 21 years of age or older.
- Must be eligible for licensure with the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).
- Must take the EMPCO test before hire.
- Must maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and have no more than three points on driving record.
- Must maintain the State of Michigan-mandated firearms qualification.
- No domestic violence convictions or felony convictions.
- Prior to the date of hire, selected candidates will undergo and must successfully pass a drug test, physical, psychological exam, and a thorough background investigation.

- The salary range for Police Officers is $63,000-$84,001 yearly, and it will move to $65,206-$86,941 in 2026.
