Zebra K9 is currently seeking a qualified, service-driven individual for the full-time Explosive Detection K9 Handler position.

Under the supervision of Zebra K9’s Director of Canine Operations, this position is responsible for working with a certified explosives detection canine to conduct explosive searches at designated client locations.

Applicants must have law enforcement or military experience, strong professional judgment, and the ability to work independently while maintaining the highest standards of canine care and client service.

Explosive Detection K9 Handler Salary and Benefits

The starting salary for the Explosive Detection K9 Handler position is from $23.00 per hour, with final compensation commensurate with education and experience.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
  • Law enforcement or military experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two years of canine handling experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Ability to accept direction on assigned duties
  • Ability to maintain sound judgment, professional conduct, confidentiality, and business ethics
  • Ability to build strong client relationships
  • Rapport with animals and the ability to maintain humane treatment and care of dogs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Explosive Detection K9 Handler will be responsible for conducting explosive searches with their assigned canine while working in conjunction with client security personnel.

Responsibilities include:
  • Completing an annual K9 handler certification with a national canine association
  • Conducting explosive searches at designated client locations
  • Maintaining canine proficiency through weekly training sessions
  • Documenting a daily log of activities performed at client locations
  • Documenting all maintenance training exercises completed by the K9 team
  • Maintaining the physical fitness needed to safely and effectively perform assigned duties
  • Housing, bathing, feeding, exercising, and grooming the assigned explosives detection canine

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee may occasionally be required to climb or balance. Applicants must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds.
