Saginaw County Emergency Dispatcher Position

Saginaw County 9-1-1 Central Dispatch is seeking an Emergency Dispatcher to work under the general supervision of the Central Dispatch Director and Supervisors, receive and processes requests from the public for police, fire, and emergency medical assistance. The dispatcher coordinates and relays calls for service to the appropriate emergency response agencies or units. Additionally, the position supports emergency service operations by gathering, managing, and distributing critical information as needed.

Qualifications

The hired applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Possess a valid Michigan Driver’s license
  • Have a good driving record
  • No criminal record
  • Must be willing to work a variety of 12 hour shifts, weekends, nights, and holidays with varying days off

Experience

  • Ability to type a minimum of 30 net words per minute
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks within a high-stress working environment
  • Ability to operate several computer systems
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and remain calm in emergency situations
  • Prior work experience with police, fire, or EMS agencies is desired

    Wages

    Wages for this position start at $23.03/hour and progress to $30.68/hour after 5 years. Training wage is $21/hr.

    Evaluation

    Applicants must complete a computerized test and participate in an oral board interview. Those selected will also be required to pass a pre-employment reference and security check, as well as a physical and drug screening. Applicants chosen to move forward in the process will receive an email invitation with detailed instructions.
