Macomb Community College Campus Police Officer

Macomb Community College is currently accepting applications for the full-time Campus Police Officer position.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of College Police, the Campus Police Officer is responsible for the service, safety, and security of all College properties, faculty, staff, students, guests, and visitors during the assigned tour of duty.

Job Responsibilities

The Campus Police Officer’s responsibilities include:

  • Prevention and suppression of crime
  • Protection of life and property
  • Development, implementation, and supervision of assigned areas of public safety specialties
  • Preservation of the peace
  • Enforcement of state, local, and federal laws and College regulations
  • Apprehension, investigation, and prosecution of offenders
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Salary

The salary for this position is $58,206.00.

Education and Experience

Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent and possess current MCOLES certification or have the ability to be certified prior to hire.

Two years of law enforcement experience as a certified sworn police officer is preferred.

Upon hire, the Police Officer will be certified as a duly sworn Police Officer by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) under Senate Bills 614 and 758, as adopted by the Michigan State Legislature in 1998. This grants the officer full law enforcement powers on properties of Macomb Community College.

Requirements for a Macomb Community College Campus Police Officer

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Have weight proportional to height
  • Possess vision and hearing that satisfies the hiring requirements of pre-employment medical testing as set forth by MCOLES
  • Have not been convicted of a violation of criminal law
  • Have not been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Have no more than three moving violations in the 24 months prior to application
  • Successfully complete all required qualifying examinations, including:
    • Physical strength and agility test
    • Written and oral exam
    • Medical examination
    • Background investigation covering employment, school, home, medical, credit, criminal, driving, and/or other personal records
  • Have some familiarity with the basic purposes and philosophy of a college public safety operation
  • Have general knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relating to college public safety operations
  • Be mature, level-headed, and calm in difficult situations
  • Be available to work weekends and holidays when directed
Working Hours and Conditions

The Campus Police Officer may be required to work weekends and holidays when directed. Hours, days, and campus assignments may vary.

Supervision

The Campus Police Officer reports to the Chief of College Police and takes direction from Command Officers.

This position may direct operations at the scene of incidents and may direct part-time department personnel.
