Campus Police Officer Position Opening

Join the Macomb Community College (MCC) team, a nationally recognized institution that ranks in the top 2% for associate degrees granted. MCC is seeking a qualified applicant to fill its Campus Police Officer position.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of College Police, the hired candidate shall be responsible for the service, safety, and security of all College properties, faculty, staff, students, guests, and visitors during the assigned tour of duty.

Responsibilities

  • Prevention and suppression of crime
  • Protection of life and property
  • Development, implementation, and supervision of assigned areas of public safety specialties
  • Preservation of the peace
  • Enforcement of state, local, and federal laws and College regulations
  • Apprehension and prosecution of offenders
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifying applicants must have five years of progressive law enforcement experience as a certified, sworn police officer.

Upon hire, the police officer will be certified as a duly sworn Police Officer by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES), under Senate Bills 614 and 758, as adopted by the Michigan State Legislature in 1998. This certification grants full law enforcement authority on the properties of Macomb Community College.

Additional Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Five years of progressive law enforcement experience as a certified sworn police officer
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Current MCOLES certification or the ability to be certified before hire
  • Have weight proportional to height
  • Possess both vision and hearing that meet the pre-employment medical testing standards set by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES)
  • No convictions for:
    • Any violation of criminal law
    • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
    • Three or more moving violations within the 24 months before application
  • Successfully complete all parts of the following qualifying examinations:
    • Physical strength and agility test
    • Written and oral exams
    • Medical examination
    • Background investigation, including evaluation of employment, education, home, medical, credit, criminal, driving, and other personal records
  • Have some familiarity with the basic purposes and philosophy of a college’s public safety operation
  • Have a general knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to college public safety
  • Must be (and appear to be) mature, level-headed, and calm in difficult situations
  • Available to work weekends and holidays as directed (hours, days, and campus assignments may vary)

Wages

The salary range for this position starts at $54,911 and can progress to $60,059. The maximum salary upon new hire is $54,911.
