Students in Utica are empowered with a high school Law Enforcement program

Shelby Township Police and Utica Community Schools are piloting a law enforcement program where students will work directly with a well-known police officer.

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program includes four sections of Law Enforcement curriculum and is available to all high school students in the district. A Shelby Township police officer who is a certified CTE instructor will lead the program.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded six college credits at Macomb Community College to help them work toward a post-secondary degree. The program is designed to educate students who are interested in a Law Enforcement / Public Safety career path. There are currently 125 students enrolled in the program for the upcoming school year.

The instructor selected for this program is former School Resource Officer James “Knobby” Knobelsdorf, who not only brings 39 years of law enforcement experience with him into the classroom but is also certified by the State of Michigan to teach CTE in secondary schools.

In addition to Ofc. Knobelsdorf’s wealth of law enforcement knowledge and experience we believe that his active-duty status makes him unique among similar programs across Michigan. We are excited for the opportunities that this program will provide for UCS students as well as the Law Enforcement / Public Safety profession.
