On February 24th, at 1700 hours, TFO Drinkard was involved in a routine surveillance operation in Garden City. The operation targeted an individual with a history of felonious assault and suspected involvement in drug trafficking activities within southeast Michigan. This individual was also suspected to be connected to gang activities.

The situation unfolded unexpectedly when the suspect arrived at the surveilled location. After the suspect exited his vehicle, TFO Drinkard did the same. Having become alerted to his presence, the suspect became aggressive. Without time to call out or react, TFO Drinkard found himself under attack. The suspect had immediately opened fire, striking the vehicle and driver’s side window TFO Drinkard had been in just moments before.

TFO Drinkard, alongside his fellow officers, acted with remarkable courage, swiftly confronting and neutralizing the threat, undeterred by the potential risks to his safety. Their trained response ensured the safety of everyone involved and brought the situation under control. Unfortunately, the suspect did not survive the encounter.
