The City of Wayne Police Department is accepting applications for an immediate opening for a full-time Police Officer. The department is a full-time law enforcement agency with 21 sworn officers. Applicants who are certified/lateral officers or individuals who will be certified/graduate from the Police Academy are encouraged to apply. A completed City of Wayne application is required. Applicants must conform to employment standards set by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).

The annual salary ranges from $49,276.35 – $75,737, with a 3.5% pay increase for the first 4 years.

City of Wayne Police Officer Requirements

  • Certificate of successful MCOLES Pre-employment Physical Agility and Reading Writing Skills Test completion.
  • Possess an MCOLES certification (as certified or certifiable) and maintain it throughout the hiring process.
  • Completion of EMPCO test before application closing date for consideration for employment.
    • Must pass with a 70% or higher.
  • Possession of good moral character as determined by a favorable background investigation covering school, employment records, home environment, and personal traits and integrity.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation, interview process, and drug/alcohol screen.
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving history.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, 21 years or older when graduating from the academy.
  • No felony convictions and/or disqualifying criminal history.
  • Be available for the entire training academy and pass the MCOLES State Licensing Exam for police officers at the end of the academy.
