As a representative of POAM it is important to be informed, educated and involved. This September, we’ve organized a handful of workshops meant to build the knowledge and skill set of our union representatives and POAM members. Please see the list of workshops offered in September 2014 below:

URW1 Rights and Roles of Union Representatives

Recommended for new representatives or anyone thinking about taking on union responsibilities for the first time! This workshop will increase your confidence and help sharpen your skills as you perform your representational roles.

RRI Robert’s Rules for Beginners

A must for anyone wanting to effectively chair a small group meeting. This workshop will demonstrate how to: conduct orderly discussions, ensure all voices are heard, encourage group involvement ad build support for group decisions.

CB1 Collective Bargaining

This workshop provides practical skills and knowledge related to day-to-day, mid-term, and term collective bargaining. We’ll cover technical issues, developing and presenting contract proposals, the legal framework of bargaining, bargaining strategy and table tactics. This is a two-session workshop and you must attend both sessions.

When: Saturday 9/23/14 & 9/20/14
Where: WSU Macomb Extension Campus, 16480 Hall Rd., Clinton Township
Time: 9:00A – 3:00P

GIP1 Grievance Investigation and Presentation

This workshop is a must for union representatives and is a great education for those who would like to understand more about how grievances are processed.

When: Thursday 9/18/14
Where: 116 State Hall, Main Campus

Discipline and Discharge

This workshop is designed for union representatives who are involved with the investigation, processing and presentation of discharge and discipline grievances. The workshop will examine and discuss due process standards commonly applied in a unionized workplace and the concept of Just Cause.
