In 2011, Fullerton police officer Jay Cicinelli and three other officers, were fired after being charged with involuntary manslaughter and excessive force in the death of Kelly Thomas, a mentally ill homeless man.

After what was a long and drawn out court case, Jay Cicinelli was found not guilty and is now fighting to gain his job back.  Cicinelli told Orange County Register, “I was wrongfully terminated. How do you argue with a jury of 12 who all agree on the same things?”  Unfortunately for Cicinelli, the Fullerton Chief of Police, Dan Hughes, is adamant about defending his decision stating, “I stand behind the employment decisions I have made.”
