I just recently became aware of the Detroit EMS presence on the POAM website. It is a shame to read about how EMS is still ostracized by the Detroit Fire Department 10 years after 911. You would have hoped that they would drop there boyscout mentality and work together as one. As a previous member of EMS I was fortunate enough to be awarded the 1999 Detroit Fire Department Medal of Valor that I still display on my office wall with pride. But after hearing how the fire department still has not grown up after all these years, I think that I’ll just put it up for sale on eBay for some poor wanting boyscout to have. I think that it was the first and last time that it was awarded to EMS, If your a DFD member and want it back then just check Craigs List, opening bid “free” or just grab it out of my garbage can. If change has not happened in the 10 years since 911 then it will never happen. I’m so happy not to be there anymore. However, keep fighting the good fight EMS.
